Over the last 16 years I have served as your Delegate to Congress from the U.S. Virgin Islands and have responded to your needs for improved health care, a diverse economy with more job and career opportunities, the development of our roads and transportation system, public safety, housing, and infrastructure development. Whenever our local government was in need of critical funding from the federal government to meet consent decrees or to gain more authority to pursue necessary financing, I responded and delivered. I have successfully maintained our economic incentive programs in manufacturing and have fought for the territory’s inclusion in homeland security, stimulus and health care reform funding.

St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands - U. S. Virgin Islands Delegate to Congress Donna M. Christensen decisively won the Democratic Primary on Saturday gaining 58% of the vote over challenger Stacey Plaskett’s 42%. “I would like to thank the voters of the Virgin Islands for participating in the primary and making a clear choice in these critical times,” said Congresswoman Christensen. “I would like to thank my supporters and my campaign staff for their hard work on the ground that ensured this victory,” she said. “Moving forward, I anticipate a united Democratic Party as we move into the General Election season. “We have more work to do,” said Congresswoman Christensen, “to address our economic and energy challenges, to fully implement health care reform, to bring more infrastructure development dollars to boost our standard of living, to increase business and employment in energy, broadband, cultural heritage tourism, agribusiness and environmental sciences and to provide a dynamic future for our children,” she said. “I pledge hard work and diligence in all these matters as we face the challenges ahead,” she said.

Congresswoman Christensen’s commitment to fighting the HIV/AIDS epidemic in communities of color began during her 29 years of service as a family physician and health administrator in the Virgin Islands.

Introduced in the House of Representatives just before the Fourth of July break by Congresswoman Donna M. Christensen (D-VI), the 353 page bill entitled The Health Equity and Accountability Act of 2009 (H.R. 3090) calls for specific actions to tear down barriers, improve workforce diversity, ensure accountability and improve health care services.
